International Seminar Maritime Education

Invitation

International Seminar Maritime Education!!!

On the 22nd of April 2009 the first seminar of the Maritime Education Platform (MEP) was organized by the STC-Group in Rotterdam. On the 28th of October 2009 we had the second successful edition. The MEP is a project-based cooperation between six maritime educational institutes from 6 different countries: Estonia, Finland, Ireland, Norway, Romania and the Netherlands (STC-Group). This platform, which is sponsored by the Life Long Learning Program of the European Commission, develops e-learning modules for maritime lecturers. The content of the modules is based on the key question of the platform: “What does the sector need?” Furthermore, the MEP will function as a starting point for further cooperation between maritime educational institutes in Europe.

During the first two seminars the following modules were presented:

-       “International Ship and Port facility Security code”;
-       Automatic Identification Systems”;
-       Ocean Towing and Related Matters”;
-       “Aids to Navigation”;
-       Atmospheric Emissions and Externalities of Shipping”;
-       Developments in Global Navigation Satellite Systems”;
-       Ship Stability”.

These modules are currently present at our e-learning platform Dokeos, which is available on our website. Registration for Dokeos is necessary.

On the 20th of April 2010, the STC-Group in Rotterdam will organize the third seminar. During this seminar, the following topics will be presented:

3)    NMCI, Ireland: “The use of LNG as an energy source for ships”

Maritime Education Platform

Dear Visitor

Welcome to the website of the Maritime Education Platform. The main idea of the MEP is explained in the column left. The time spam of the project is two years, up till September 2010. Seven partners are participating in the project, from Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Ireland, Romania, Norway and The Netherlands. In October 2008 we had our first partner meeting in Rotterdam, at STC-Group premises (www.stc-r.nl). In april 2009, the first seminar took place in Rotterdam, at the STC-Group. At this moment, we are preparing the second seminar on the 28th of October 2009, again in Rotterdam. 4 Modules are being presented during this seminar. More information will follow as soon as possible. Those subjects are related to the STCW convention (www.stcw.org) and are mentioned for maritime lecturers, to improve their knowledge and understanding. Moreover, the modules are developed in the webbased e-learning application Dokeos http://www.dokeos.com.

On 28 October 2009 four subjects will be presented during a seminar in Rotterdam. Soon the subjects will be announced on this website.

A Leonardo da Vinci Transfer of Innovation project.

The main idea of this project is producing and sharing high quality educational material. This will be done by developing a virtual learning space and by organizing seminars. Each partner has to develop a high standard and up to date e-learning module(s) on a certain subject. This module will be available for the other partners by means of a virtual learning space. Moreover the seminars aim to give opportunity to share and discuss the content within the group of partners. Subsequently the course can be improved by the author. Summarized, the project provides improvement of quality of maritime educational material, co-operation between maritime educational institutions, an innovative virtual learning space filled with high quality e-learning courses.
